Don't take opponents lightly: MSD

Remember what happened last time when India visited the Caribbean Islands for the World Cup 2007. Yes, the stunning defeat for the Men in Blue by the Bangla Tigers. That game changed the course of India’s World Cup Journey with a unexpected exit.

Dravid and Co had overconfidence of beating the Bangladesh team so did they lose. But MS Dhoni this time is taking it seriously.

Here are his words:-

If you ask me, I would not consider our opening match against Afghanistan as a practice game. I don’t take my opponents lightly. At the end of the day you have to win whichever team you play.

I don’t know much about them. It is good in a way because if we know too much about a side then you are thinking too much about them. However, our preparation will remain the same as if you are playing the best opponent in world cricket

We can’t really relax against whichever team you are playing. At the end of the day you are representing India and you have to be at your best when you turn up on the field.

We don’t actually need to play a warm-up game as the way we have shaped up after the long journey, there wouldn’t have been any good coming out of it. It is good that we can rest and have a rigorous practice session and get back into the groove and prepare for the match against them

Let us see what happens…

India perish for 223, Proteas enforce follow on

Its not that kind of batting that a World No.1 Team should have. With South Africa scoring 558 and declaring, India needed a minimum of 400 runs so that they can stay alive in the test. But, all expected became the reverse.

Resuming the innings, the Hosts started of at 25-0, but soon Gautam Gambhir perished for only 12 runs knocking a out going ball. This started the South African Proceedings, as Murali Vijay too fell just adding 4 runs to the total and bowler of a superb in-swinger which he had left.

Tendulkar, too didn’t add much to the total who added seven runs and perished of a outside edge. India were struggling at 56-3.

Rightly, the Indian middle order was exposed as Badrinath, Dhoni and only Saha were yet to come. But, the Debutant Badrinath played superb cricket. He is a great find for the Indian test team who will surely cement his place ahead of Yuvraj if he given many opportunities like this.

The Sehwag-Badrinath combine that had bailed India out in the second hour of the first session couldn’t quite carry on the good work through the post-lunch session. After scripting a perfect counter-attack and going on to score a blazing century, Sehwag perished to a loose shot.

However, debutant S Badrinath and captain MS Dhoni ensured that there was no more damage and took India to tea at 221 for 4.

But, after the tea it was disastrous. Unexpected things happened. What do you expect a team to do from 221 for 4? You won’t think this that India would perish for 233 losing 6 wickets in 41 balls.

THAT really happened and the pick of the bowlers was Dale Steyn who scripted his best bowling performance taking 7-51.

After tea, immediately Dhoni fell. It was unlucky dismissal for Dhoni and whoever sees it would feel sad of him. Paul Harris did the trick pitching on the foot marks in the leg side.

Adding one run after Dhoni’s dismissal, Badrinath too fell in a cheeky fashion. Then tumbling started, first W.Saha for a duck, then Zaheer, Mishra and finally Harbhajan Singh.

A world class team to fall from 221-4 to 233-10 is bad isn’t it?

Maybe the team is lacking the batting of Dravid and Laxman. This happens when there are no good reserves who are ready to take the position.

India were asked to follow on by Greame Smith and they did so. The were trailing by 235 runs after been all out.

After scoring one run, Gambhir fell clean bowled to Morkel. Sehwag bashed 16 runs and he fell to Steyn.

Tenmdulkar and Vijay had pressure more that 251% to save the test match. Till now they have been doing so scoring runs in snail’s pace. 66/2 in 23 overs of play. 2 runs per over is great to save the test!

Amla’s double ton powers Proteas to 558

Surely, the visitors are holding the driver’s seat in this game as Hasim Amla and Jacques Kallis continued their brilliant partnership. Kallis soon got out within half an hour but Hashim Amla’s 11 hour stand facing 473 balls and scoring 253 not out ensured the total of 558 for 6 when Greame Smith told enough and declared the inning.

With the three overs remaining in the day, the Indians were asked to bat it out to save their wickets and both the Delhi Dashers did so scoring 25 brisk runs in a span of 3 overs.

The Indian Middle order will be tested tomorrow as the South Africans have managed a great 558.

Amla marathon performance was superb as he sent out a strong word to Indians telling that don’t ever be casual of out side. The bearded Visitor’s class was superb and his timing excellent as the Indian bowlers were struggling to take his wicket.

AB De Villiers too supported him at the other end scoring 53 to add to the 4th wicket Partnership but failed to continue as he was holed by Sehwag’s spinning delivery chipping it to the point fielder.

Duminy, couldn’t find his form as he fell for a Leg before for just nine runs walking back to the hut. But Boucher supported the Double Centurion almost till the end scoring a cameo but fell to Zaheer Khan.

As Amla scored his 250, Greame Smith declared the innings.

It was another great day for the Visitors who rattled India.

World Championship of Cricket starts tomorrow!

And we are finally in awaiting for the match to begin. It has been 3 years since both the test teams have met each other. The last one was new to forget as India’s Nawab of Najafgarh went on to score another triple century ,they were rattled for under hundred in one innings and the final match got over in less than 3 days.

So, now whoz in with a chance to win the match. India is surely missing the Wall, his absence will cost a lot. With Dravid missing out, the other six batsmen are:

Sehwag, Gambhir, Vijay, Tendulkar, Badrinath, Laxman.

  • The team still contains- top ordered explosive batsmen Sehwag and Gambhir who are in top form.
  • Next position No.3, it will lack the experience of Rahul Dravid. So probably, Vijay or Badrinath or even Laxman will play in his absence.
  • Tendulkar, no words to explain he is in great form. He should take responsibility for the whole team.
  • Meanwhile, Laxman too is in good form just fresh after a injury. Oh! I just got in news that Laxman is not certain for the match but it is not the final decision. Lets see!
  • Vijay and Badrinath are the domestic players who play for Tamil Nadu, both have a opportunity in their hands to perform well.

The Indian bowling attack consists of Harbhajan, Zaheer, Ishant, Mishra/Ojha/Tyagi.

  • Zaheer and Ishant are the two spearheads for the Indian Attack. They should take early wickets to put the visitors in pressure.
  • Harbhajan too, is important and he is the main guy to watch out for because he might make a difference.
  • The other one place probably will be filled by a spinner because it is a spinning track or even Dhoni may try something else.

So, Lets watch out who performs well for the Indian team.

Players to watch out for India: Sehwag, Gambhir, Zaheer and Harbhajan. The key roles are given to these 4 experienced players.

While, The Indian batsmen have to face the speeds of Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnel who have the capacity to bowl over 150 speeds.

The spinners Johan Botha and Paul Harris would be in need for the Proteas for most of the stages of the match. Their performance in recent times is not upt o the mark.

So, awaiting to see what happens. Till Next time- its Bye.!

Preview: 4th ODI India vs Lanka

With the brilliance of Ravindra Jadeja and Sachin Tendulkar, India went on to win the match and lead the series 21 in Cuttack, now India plans to win the series in the Mecca of Cricket Eden Gardens.

After starting of to a flier by Dilshan and Tharanga supported by Sangakkara the rest of the batsmen collapsed to the spin of Jadeja, Sehwag and Harbhajan. With a small target India achieved this target led by Sachin Tendulkar’s 96 with seven overs to spare. Now all the eyeballs turn to the Eden Gardens.

After about 34 months The coliseum of cricket is hosting a ODI match because of the problem between CAB and BCCI.

Both the team reached Calcutta on Tuesday with the Indian team missing Mr. Kool Captain Dhoni and the Prince- Yuvraj Singh It is a do or die for The Islanders. Mostly The Veteran would return into as Jayasuriya has a high record in this stadium.

The Lankans need some changes in the team and in the batting order. While Dilshan, Tharanga and Sangakkara are in their best, the rest of the players were the cause of loss in the last match.

While the bowling really couldn’t restrict India’s 414, 301 and 242. All the batsmen for India are in prime form. Meanwhile, the spinners are doing well, even Zaheer and Nehra but the third bowler i.e Ishant did very bad last match. And Praveen Kumar’s economy in first two ODIs were around 6 but he was wicket less in both the games . Maybe Sudeep Tyagi will be picked or India will retain Ishant.

Fielding is improving day to day from India’s point of view. Without Yuvraj India will loose experience if early wicket falls. Virat Kohli will take his place in his absense.

It will be important for India too to win the match and go on to win the series. Very Important that Sehwag shuffle his bowlers, bat well and most of it captain the team well.

Sehwag vs Dhoni – Who is a better captain…?

After a superb and emphatic win by The Indian Team against The Lankans in the Third ODI b y Sehwag’s me n-One thing struck in my mind, Why not compare Dhoni’s captaincy and Sehwag’s.

MS Dhoni is Mr.Cool. In this series, the main difference between him and the Nawab is that he didn’t shuffle his bowlers well. But Sehwag in the 3rd ODI did the magic shuffling the bowlers well.

He brought bowlers in regular interval. He bowled himself but if Dhoni was there he doesn’t bowls Sehwag a lot as he has hopes on Raina and Yuvraj.

Sehwag in this ODI lead the team himself in the bowling too as he struck the major break through to turn the match. The match which Lanka aimed 300 above was restricted under 250 because of Sangakkara’s wicket he struck.

You cannot tell that Sehwag is better than Dhoni from one match. I am just comparing the bowling game-plan between Dhoni and Sehwag. I don’t know but this was the best bowling performance in the series. This point struck me to write this article.

I don’t know what but I didn’t expect this strategy from Mr.Cool in this series. This was why Lanka scored a lot in both ODIs. Meanwhile, Sehwag bowled in seven bowlers including him.

Another important difference is the way both approached batting after given the Captaincy.

  • We cannot forget the 183 and 148 scored by Dhoni with high strike rate. But after being given the Captaincy Dhoni slowed down his strike rate. Before his strike rate was more than 140. But after given the responsibility he slowed down with strike rate around 8090.
  • Meanwhile, Sehwag was in the same demolishing form. Even after given a leadership he led the team as usual.
  • I have seen The Master Blaster after given the Leadership in 1990s he couldn’t concentrate on his batting. But Sehwag is unbelievable. He is excellent.

Sehwag’s approach to lead his team was great. His captaincy is excellent(i don’t say he is better than Dhoni as it is not the best time for it).His strategy was different. His game plan was cool.

Very important, We could get to see Sehwag’s captaincy in Dhoni’s absence.  It would have been very very difficult if Sehwag was not there. Think and see even Yuvraj is also not there. It would have been difficult for Gambhir and Harbhajan to lead because they just have no experience.

So The Indian board or the Money eaters as I call it should give opportunity for the young guys of the team to give a chance to Lead.

They should arrange a series in Bangladesh or Zimbabwe where all young guys should be in the squad and rest all others.

Maybe for Bangladesh tri series Indian team should be full of young fellows.

Cuttack game to test Sehwag’s captaincy

After Dhoni being banned for two ODIs, it is now upto the stand in captain Sehwag to fight against the Lankans.

India lost the second ODI because of fielding and bowling. Now there is another blow that in form centurion in the previous game Dhoni’s batting and captaincy will be missed.

The turning factor for India is the opening parnership. In the last game it was 4 for 1. Gambhir too go out early. Batting of Sehwag will be important factor.

Yuvraj Singh who missed first two ODIs is still retained in the 15 man squad but probably won’t play.

Dinesh Karthik who replaces Dhoni for keeping will be important factor in the middle order.

Without Dhoni the middle order lacks experience. Only Raina is the spearhead with other guys Kohli, Karthik and Jadeja in the team.

If Yuvraj plays it will add a moral booster to the team. The Curator tells that this is another run fest.

The bowling and fielding needs uplift. Sehwag will be tested in choosing his bowlers and at the proper time using them.

With Ishant Sharma in the squad mostly he won’t be picked because there is no space. Maybe Praveen will be dropped.

Indians should do well to win the match. Otherwise they should will other 2 matches to win the series.
