Royal Challengers up for the challenge
If the first season of IPL for the so called “Test team” was awful and horrific, then the Season two of the tournament was Spledid and Superb, ending up as the runner ups. But, season three looked to be of decent and they fared well. And what now, they have roped in all the important players and stars who were earlier a part of Delhi Daredevils and some really talented young players. This team retained Virat Kohli in all expenses of letting out Kallis, Taylor and other big guys.
First, lets look in brief how they did in the earlier seasons. 2008 Season as said above didn’t have anything in the store for the Men in Red. Captain Rahul Dravid and others had nothing to prove and so rightly were tagged the Test team. But all the criticism took a beating in the second season. Owner Mallya did some tactical changes which worked out well. Anil Kumble being the Captain, Ray Jennings taking the coaching responsibility, Grabbing in some good players- all were a part of the Magic happened in South Africa. Eventually, the team landed up in the Finals, but Deccan Chargers fared better. From being the last to coming to the top, Kumble was much talked of. Season three was good. They carried on from where they left the last year. Taking responsibility and Stars emerged in Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey, Robin Uthappa and other lads. Kumble continued his run of success as the Captain of the team. But, successful Kumble has called it a day in IPL and won’t play anymore. Anyway, he has taken the post to help the team in IPL 4.
BATSMEN– M Kaif, C Pujara, Saurabh Tiwary, KB Arun Karthik, TM Dilshan, Virat Kohli, CM Gautam, Abrar Kazi, Maynak Agarwal, Luke Pomersbach, Rilee Rossouw, Jonathan Vandiar, Bhareth Narayann.
BOWLERS– Charl Langevedlt, Zaheer Khan, Dirk Nannes, A Mithun, S Aravind, Nuwan Pradeep
ALL ROUNDERS– Daniel Vettori (C), Raju Bhatkal, Ryan Ninan, Asad Khan Pathan, Johan van der Wath.
WICKET KEEPER– AB de Villers
This bunch of lads will have their day. May be, this team well could turn into being the finalists. Coach Ray Jennings is determined to win this Cup, for which the players have the potential in them. The Foreigners bought in the auction are a big buy and both Indians- Zaheer Khan and Virat Kohli will have been the key.
This team may lose the services of Big hitting Ross Taylor, but have got another instead of him in another Kiwi Vettori. He has rightly been given the Captaincy and his bowling will do the talking in this format. Nowdays, yes, he has turned into a middle order Batsman as well. He led the New Zealand team into the Semi finals playing some excellent Cricket but the Lankans ended the Kiwi dream. Now, he has given up the Captaincy to former RCB player Ross Taylor.
The Dil scoop boy and the opener of RCB batting will be the heavy weight of this squad. Well, his performaces in the World Cup were quite visible and matchwinning ones. He will just continue from where he stopped in the World Cup. T20 Cricket means agqression and he does exactly that. A good start from his willow will mean a lot to the team. He ended up as a top scorer in the World Cup and just like that, we may see him doing in this IPL too.
No words for this Bowling Legend. If you watch the World Cup or recent games, you would come to know that he is in red-hot form and will strike when the ball is in his hand. The team already had him in 2008, but during that time, he wasn’t in prime form and was transferred to Mumbai. Now, the hero is back to Chinnaswamy to lead the bowling attack and hit the timber.
AB de Villers-
This South African has improved a lot and is a master now. Middle order will be dependant on him. This World Cup turned out to be a decent one for him. He scored some crucial runs which he is expected to do in the IPL also. All eyes on him this year.
If things go right for Vijay Mallya’s boys, then anything is achieveable. The team has the much required freshness and is superbly balanced. Agressive batting by Dilshan, Formidable middle order players AB de Villers and Virat Kohli. Whom did I forget? Yeah, our specialist Saurabh Tiwary. He had much to prove in the last IPL and was dependant. A middle order spot for him is sure. King Khan and Dirk Nannes in the bowling order and Daniel Vettori for the spin department will surely look to kill the batting. Ray Jennings’ determination and rest all over says Royal Challengers Bangalore is a team to watch out and put all money on them.
