Very Very Special Laxman

This bomb-shell from the Deccan has been one of the best player that the Indian side has had ever since. He is mainly known for his stroke play and leg glance. One of his favorite rivals who he would love to play against are the Aussies. We cannot forget any of the innings that he played against this Kangaroos.

The Australians have suffered more than most by his spectacular batting display. He tormented Steve Waugh’s side during Australia’s  tour to India in 2001, who were known to be the invincible side to be played against. He showed his splendid form with a majestic 281 to stand the Kolkata test on his heads.

His consistent batting during the 2003-04 Down Under made the Australians admit that they did not know where to bowl to him. In that series, he went on to score 2 centuries, one of them involving a match winning  300 plus run stand with Rahul Dravid during the test in Adelaide.

Later on, there was little bit of hiccups here and there for Laxman as he was dropped from the One day squad. But due to his wonderful knocks in tests from the beginning, he got a fixed place in the test squad as one of the experienced player in the team. After a dismal performance during 2005-07, he came back with a bang. And this time again its the Aussies who got trapped in his net. In 2008, Sydney test Laxman batting at Number 3 scored an impressive ton that revived India after the hiding in Melbourne.

After this series against the Aussies, Laxman become the second player after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the 2000 plus run mark against the Kangaroos. During this year Australia’s  return series against the men in blue also seemed good for VVS, as he came up good with some half centuries.

Laxman showed decent performances in 2009 too. In this year though he did not play many matches against the Aussies,he came up with very good batting display against the Lankans as well as the Black caps. But most of the Months in 2009 was spent by him playing for the English county side Lancashire. During the Pro 40 season and the test season for Lancashire he played some crucial knocks in guiding the side to victory on thrilling and nail bitting situations. The starting of 2010 allowed VVS to play few knocks against Sri Lanka.

After this as we know it is the Epic test match at Mohali. A fluent knock of 73 again against the Aussies {tired of saying this} and a match winning partnership with Ishant Sharma which included 81 runs helped India to win one of the closest Test match in the history of Test cricket that came down the wire.

This knock has made him one of the best players who can play under pressure. Hoping that he will be playing for few more years and will bring glory for the Indian side, and make us proud too being the one and only “VERY VERY SPECIAL” Laxman.
