The great epic of Mohali

Indeed, it was the best test match I have ever seen in my life. The whole Test was exciting except for the first day where the Australians were scoring on a cautious pace. But, the excitement started and the whole match’s result was changing every day.

Indians in reply to Oz score- 428, scored 405 thanks to major contributions from God- Sachin, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid and Suresh Raina. The start given by Sehwag was aggressive, it did not look like a Test match as Sehwag has his own way of scoring the boundaries. Sachin Tendulkar just missed the century by 2 runs, call it bad luck or the nervous nineties.

It is said that “If one wicket starts falling, the others too continue in the same way” , just like the cycles in a row. It did happen for the Men in White (:D India in white dress) when Sachin Tendulkar missed the century, and all fans were sad, the wickets just started tumbling. When, it looked we will have a lead of even 100 runs, Indians crumbled short of 23 runs.

It was enough of the flat deck and batsman friendly pitch, the last two days saw the Seamers dominating the game. From the stats, it is clear that Left Arm Seamers took most of the wickets (Zaheer Khan, Mitchell Johnson, Doug Bollinger).  It was tough for the Aussies to cross the 200 mark as they perished for a 192. Ishant Sharma looked back to form picking up 3 wickets along with Zaheer. It was a all round effort by the Indian bowlers.

Another highlight of this game was the umpires and their poor decisions. Where are thou Umpires. May be they were burning in the hot sun. So, many wrong decisions for both the sides, many not in favour of India.

When asked to many people about chasing down 216, people said that it was a easy task. But, it was not so to be. Even though it was not a mammoth target, the Australian bowlers exploited the short ball weakness of the Indians. On the stumps of Day 4, India already lost 4 wickets.

Day 5 and there was a huge task for India to do. Bollinger got rid of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni didn’t trouble the scoreboard. Laxman and Ishant Sharma had a huge task to do. Its hats off the Ishant Sharma who gave partner to Laxman who had back pain and still was batting. Any way it was a miracle. India won it. Laxman and Ishant did the job for India. Over all, India have another example to prove that they are the No.1 Test team.
