Battle of the Champs: India vs Oz

Yeah ,the much awaited Clash of the Titans will get underway as Australia Face India in a Two match test series with the Latter playing Host. India-Australia (Or Border- Gavaskar Series, whatever you call it) Test series have been fiercely contested in the recent past and Considering the quality of the players involved, It won’t be a surprise if this series turns to be a close one.

India are currently the Numero Uno Test side in the world, a position that the Kangaroos have possessed for almost a Decade until India got it for the first time in December 2009. The Aussies have performed consistently all around the world barring India. But the Indians were a difficult side to play for the Australians in 2008 Series where the Indians crumbled them.

But this a totally different game this season, with the likes of many New lads in both the sides. Australians are keen on getting back the Number One Test spot, but the distance to be covered is high, the road is steep, but nothing is impossible, for everything there Ricky Ponting and other unbelievable players. Aussies totally depend on the trio of Ricky Ponting, Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson. It is the other Seasons where they had the big names like Brett Lee, Matthew Hayden, Gilchrist. etc. After the biggies retired, the reputation of Australia almost went. But, they are in the process of regaining it.

On the other side, the Hosts, India too are missing a lot of biggies in the name of Ganguly and Kumble but they got settled with their absence and now still hold the Numero Uno position. The Dependence of the Indian team is unpredictable. Any body can give the team a big knock at any time. The key men still are Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan. (Harbhajan too, but he is doubtful for the first game). Sachin Tendulkar, no need to explain, as usual he is best, will look to getting close to his 50th ton and in the process help India do well.

Sehwag, can chase down or score a huge target easily, maybe this time triple ton on one day? 😀 . Zaheer Khan is the spearhead and the whole team will depend on him in Harbhajan’s absence. Pragyan Ojha could be picked if Bhajji misses out, and he too is dangerous bowler. And not to forget, Suresh Raina played a magnificent role during his debut, he was in sublime form during the CL, so he too will be watched out for.

Any way, there is Ishant Sharma back and the trio of Zaheer, Sharma and Sreesanth will look to trouble the Kangroos. Meanwhile, there is no Brett Lee, neither Stuart Clark. Mitchell Johnson is the spearhead, along with Nathan Hauritz and Douggy Bollinger.

SQUADS:

Australia: Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke (vice-capt), Doug Bollinger, Peter George, Nathan Hauritz, Josh Hazlewood, Ben Hilfenhaus, Phillip Hughes, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Simon Katich, Marcus North, Tim Paine (wk), Steven Smith and Shane Watson.
