Injured Zaheer out of Test series
As an upset for the Indian Cricket team which is to tour for a Test series in Sri Lanka as Zaheer Khan, the Indian spear heard pacer was ruled out with a shoulder injury. The tour includes three Tests, followed by a tri-series in Dambulla, also involving New Zealand.
Karnataka and Royal Challengers Rookie Pacer Abhimanyu Mithun has been given a chance as a replacement for Zaheer Khan. With Zaheer’s absence all the eyes are on Sreesanth and Ishant Sharma now.
Earlier, Zaheer Khan was rested for the India tour of Zimbabwe for the busy season ahead. But he participated in all games of the Asia Cup.
Zaheer on Twitter said:-
Shoulder is troubling me a little need to sort it out,Hope to be back soon. Important season ahead.
The tournament begins on July 18th in Galle. It continues in Colombo, where the second Test will be played at the Sinhalese sports club from July 26 and the third at the P Sara Oval from August 3.
Sreesanth and Ishant Sharma who are given a comeback will be heavily depended upon. The Indian team lacks Quality Pace attack.
Abhimanyu Mithun has been impressing the selectors with his wicket taking performance of the Karnataka team in the Ranji Trophy and other domestic tournaments. Mithun was the highest wicket-taker of the tournament. His remarkable performance in the Ranji trophy earned him a place in the national team for the Test series against South Africa earlier this year.
The test series was followed by his ODI debut. The tour of Zimbabwe was disastrous, where he was almost the spearhead pacer of the team but did not get a chance to impress the Zimbabwe crowd.
Mithun was called back from the A team of India in England as a substitute for the injured fast bowler Vinay Kumar. After the Zimbabwe call-up, the Karnataka fast bowler rejoined India A team for one-dayers. The most recent performance of Mithun came against West Indies A on Friday where he took 3 wickets conceding 49 runs.
